Kaiser Permanente Research Associate I- Sacramento in Sacramento, California

Job Summary:

We are seeking an enthusiastic, communicative, and detail oriented individual to recruit and perform interview activities for the Life After 90 Study (LA90) and the Kaiser Healthy Aging and Diverse Life Experiences Study (KHANDLE) in the Greater Sacramento Area. The LA90 study aims to estimate incidence of cognitive impairment in a diverse cohort of participants age 90 and older. We also seek to identify cognitive risk and protective factors and understand the pattern of cerebral and brain pathologies in a diverse population of 90+ year old’s. The KHANDLE study aims to evaluate how early-life conditions influence racial and ethnic differences in dementia rates, and to understand risk factors for cognitive decline later in life.

The Research Associate I will be responsible for field interviewer work as well as some administrative work as needed. As a field interviewer, the selected candidate will screen, recruit and schedule participants for in-person interviews in the Greater Sacramento Area. The interviews will be conducted in the participants home or in a Kaiser facility near the participants’ home. The Interviewer will administer cognitive interview according to study protocols and skip patterns. Interviewer will obtain body size measurements and physical function assessments and will complete and score study questionnaires with attention to accuracy and detail. The candidate selected for this position will also be asked to work on various administrative tasks to support ongoing needs of the studies.

Coordinates small scale project(s) e.g., less than one year, under 100k annually. Works under general supervision. Final review required for each phase of assignment.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates recruitment of participants and develops information packets for the participants. Monitors and tracks participant progress throughout the project and provides follow-up as needed. Assists with development of research instruments. Trains research assistants.

  • Edits and manipulates data; performs data manipulation to produce progress reports including basic statistical analyses. Maintains project records & reports. Reviews literature relating to research project. May conduct detailed, complex in-person or telephone interviews. May be responsible for data quality assurance. May coordinate small scale research projects.

  • Kaiser Permanente conducts compensation reviews of positions on a routine basis. At any time, Kaiser Permanente reserves the right to reevaluate and change job descriptions, or to change such positions from salaried to hourly pay status. Basic Qualifications:

Experience

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in one or more of the technical areas required - Professional certification (e.g., RN, RHIT, RD, etc.) may substitute for one (1) year of experience.

Education

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

License, Certification, Registration

  • N/A

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience with interviewing & chart review.

  • Basic knowledge of questionnaire design & simple data analysis & interpretation.

  • Knowledge of computer applications, such as word processing, spreadsheet design, & database applications.

  • Familiar with medical terminology.

  • Must be able to work in Labor/ Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in public health, health care administration, epidemiology or other related field preferred, OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills are a must.

  • Experience with recruitment and retention of an aged cohort is a plus.

  • Ability to maintain meticulous organization of study related documents; ability to maintain excellent, tactful communication with research participants and study staff.

Secondary Functions:

  • Must be able to lift 25lbs, have own car, valid drivers license and willing to travel through greater Sacramento area.

  • Travel to Pleasanton as needed.

  • This is for 1-2 years.
