Senior Data Architect

Full Time Perm

Way of Work : Hybrid - two days on location

Salary Range: $107,000 - $188,600, plus annual bonus

Location: Columbus, OH

Relocation assistance provided

The NiSource IT organization is accountable for all NiSource systems, including all Customer, Corp, and Technology Domains.

The Senior Data Architect plays a crucial role in creating high-quality data assets to support business requirements. Collaborating with business, IT and analytics colleagues, the Sr. Data Architect understands data needs and designs optimized structures. The Sr. Data Architect's models reduce redundancy, streamline data flow, and enhance enterprise data management. Leveraging best practices, the Sr. Data Architect creates timely, reliable, and scalable data products. As a recognized subject matter expert, the Sr. Data Architect tackles complex problems with a broad perspective, while also coaching, reviewing, and delegating tasks to less experienced professionals.

The Sr. Data Architect will also work with IT and EA leadership, business leaders, and service providers to develop and implement data architecture strategies, as well as developing methodologies and processes to ensure compliance to those strategies. Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Translate business requirements into technology requirements and define data standards and principles.

  • Design the enterprise data management framework.

  • Analyze enterprise business drivers to develop enterprise architecture strategies and plans.

  • Research technology industry and market trends for a domain.

  • Assemble large, complex data sets that align with business requirements.

  • Analyze and translate business needs into long-term solution data models.

  • Design & implement effective database solutions and models for storing and retrieving company data.

  • Collaborate with the cross functional teams to create conceptual data models and data flows.

  • Implement data strategies and developing physical data models.

  • Lead data modeling strategy for complex projects from start to finish.

  • Identify database structural necessities by evaluating business operations, applications, and programming.

  • Provide architectural leadership on the design and development of a solution for the NiSource enterprise.

  • Drive the translation of the business client's complex business problems into the selected technology solutions by designing complete solutions that leverage various IT services components.

  • Research possible solutions and alternatives for implementation of the project technology applications, business process and technical problems, problems, performs an analysis of alternatives, and leads the recommendation to a solution.

  • Coordinate and develop systems integration designs for the project, including high-level and detailed system, application, and technology diagrams.

  • Align the selected technology solutions with the technical architecture, operational processes, and lifecycle processes.

  • Ensure that the IT solution fits with the current and planned enterprise architecture and standards as well as IT strategies and IT product roadmaps.

  • Create architecture documentation and deliverables throughout the project lifecycle of the solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

  • 5+ years of experience functioning as a Data architect

  • 5+ years of experience designing and implementing database solutions.

  • 5+ years of experience physical and relational data modeling

  • 5+ years of experience in data warehousing and data lake architecture

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building and optimizing big-data pipelines, architectures, and data sets.

  • Excellent organizational and analytical abilities.

  • Outstanding problem solving.

  • Understanding of best practices in Data Warehousing and Data Lake architecture

  • Strong knowledge of database structure systems and data mining.

  • Understanding of agile methodologies and experience on a cross-functional agile team.

  • Expert knowledge of metadata management and related tools.

  • Experience deploying and maintaining code with version control tools.

  • Familiarity with the standards and best practices bodies i.e. ITIL, CoBIT, CMMi, Six Sigma/LEAN etc.
