City of Hot Springs

TITLE: Maintenance Tech

DEPARTMENT: Wastewater Lift Station

REPORTS TO: Lift Station Manager

PAY GRADE: 06

FSLA Nonexempt

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

General Statement of Duties

Performs semi-skilled to skilled maintenance duties relative to sewer lift pump operations.

Supervision Received

Works under general supervision of an administrative superior.

Supervision Exercised

None

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Troubleshoots and repairs control panels; repairs and replaces pumps (two to 300 horsepower); performs preventive

maintenance on pump stations and station equipment; meets with the public and explains problems, procedures, etc.;

performs required mechanical, electrical and electronic troubleshooting to correct any malfunctioning component;

prepares adequate written reports; communicates on two-way radio; responds to calls for emergency repairs outside

normal working hours; performs related work as required. Perform On-Call duties as assigned. Work overtime when

required.

QUALIFICAITONS

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Considerable knowledge of centrifugal pumps, control circuits and force mains; working knowledge of

basic electrical and plumbing methods; working knowledge of volt/ohm meters; working knowledge of

street names and locations, both in the city and county; ability to lift heavy motors weighing 125 pounds and

more; ability to operate specialized equipment (e.g., septic tank truck, dump truck, etc.); ability to

communicate effectively with the general public; ability to understand and follow verbal and written

instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Education

High school graduation or equivalent.

Experience

Prefer an individual with some plumbing experience and maintenance of pumps.

Substitution

Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Licenses

Entry level employees will be classified as a pay grade 6. Maintenance Tech employees who hold or obtain

a CDL will be classified as a grade 7. Maintenance Tech employees who uphold both a CDL and

appropriate water license will be eligible for promotion to a pay grade 8.

Commercial Drivers License (CDL); Wastewater Collection Operator I.

requirements include close, color, distance, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus; occasionally

required to lift more than 100 pounds.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; works in outdoor weather conditions, near moving

mechanical parts and in high, precarious places; exposed to fumes or airborn e particles, toxic or caustic chemicals
