What you will do

The Director Strategic Product Planning Volvo Trucks and Mack Trucks is responsible for Industry Verticals analysis and planning the portfolio for the North American trucks platforms, leading a diverse and experienced team, managing a wide array of topics, culminating in a leading offer for the Volvo Group’s truck brands. The function owns the Product Plans for Group Trucks in North America.

The other responsibilities can be divided in three parts:

Product Plan Work

  • Establish and hold the long-term Product Plan for the Conventional trucks brands in sync with Volvo Group ambition and Truck BA’s.

  • Capture platform advantages in close cooperation with the TD/BA’s and the engineering community

  • Initiate adjustment of the Portfolio through the quarterly cadence towards Brands and Engineering, for anchoring in Product Board.

  • Secure that a complete and competitive Conventional portfolio is in accordance with the strategic direction, driving profitable growth in selected truck markets and segments

  • Contribute with knowledge and customer requirements for Conventional product changes initiated outside the portfolio with effect on the Product Plan

Project Work

  • Conduct product planning strategic investigations

  • Create, manage and lead the Pre-requisite development through deep understanding of the transport needs, trends and competitive landscape

  • Prepare and present project decision material for the area of responsibility in the early phases

  • Facilitate fact-based trade-offs during design discussions in order to optimize the product offering

  • Active member of the GTT committees command chain

Preparation of the Future

  • Drive the long-term Conventional product forecast activities and the long-term product plan

  • Continuously build expert knowledge by pursuing data driven as well as real life customer understanding through implementation of Industry Vertical and application investigations to drive a solutions mindset

  • Analyze competitive landscape and competitor’s product line up

In this position you will report to the Vice President of Strategic Product Planning and be located in our Greensboro, North Carolina office. You will be a member of the SPP Leadership Team, and also a part of the Project & Product Strategy Office (PPSO).

Strategic Product Planning (SPP) is a highly strategic and influential function within Group Trucks Technology (GTT), as we support the entire Volvo Group navigate the transformation and set the direction of a visionary and holistic product plan driving the Group’s long terms ambitions.

SPP is a global function with team members located in Sweden, France, USA and Brazil, as well as actively working with colleagues and stakeholders across all Volvo Group’s locations worldwide. We are passionate about defining, analyzing and translating business requirements and user needs into meaningful and desirable commercial solutions. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Proven leadership experience in a global environment.

  • 10+ years of trucking industry related experience and market knowledge as well as strong Product and Offering Knowledge

  • Experience from Sales/Marketing of Heavy-Duty trucks, international business experience and/or aftermarket experience is considered a merit

  • Global experience, working in complex matrix organizations

  • Negotiation skills and tactic experience

  • Experience with finance and business case analysis

  • Advanced skills in Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBi and Finance/Portfolio management tools
