Job Summary - Principal, Venture Capital

The Principal, Venture Capital is a key member of the Corewell Health Ventures team, responsible helping source, evaluate, and conduct due diligence for strategic investment opportunities on behalf of the Corewell Health System. This role has responsibility assessing investment opportunities, includes building and reviewing financial and valuation models, performing risk and opportunity analysis, evaluating business models, market trend analysis, tracking competitive landscapes, and conducting high-level research in a variety of healthcare verticals. The Principal will help manage existing investments within the Corewell Health Ventures investment portfolio as assigned.

Essential Functions - Principal, Venture Capital

  • Advise leadership of the financial, organizational, facilities and capital resource implications of new business opportunities resulting from bid and proposal activities. Develop operating financial models and underlying assumptions to evaluate a target’s financial projections and perform comprehensive financial valuations involving discounted cash flow, internal rate of return, earnings accretion/dilution, merger consequence analysis and comparable company/transaction analysis.

  • Conduct due diligence on opportunities to assess attractiveness and structure investment relationships and how that can intersect with business development and strategic priorities of Corewell Health System. Advise leadership of the financial, organizational, facilities and capital resource implications of new business opportunities resulting from bid and proposal activities.

  • Assist in the presentation of data related to investment opportunities and risk evaluation for investments, including proposals to Corewell Health Ventures Investment Committee.

  • Participate in negotiation with sellers and potential business partners and recommend resolutions as needed, including post-closing integration efforts as needed.

  • Build reporting on where investments are being made, their progress and future efforts. Create and maintain reports summarizing the ongoing performance of strategic investments.

  • Coordinate and conduct due diligence activities, pulling resources from other areas of the organization as needed including Legal, Tax and Finance teams to coordinate completion of the final contract.

  • Ensure high quality interactions and provide clear and consistent communications with internal and external partners.

Qualifications - Principal, Venture Capital

  • Required Business Admin, Finance or Clinical Area (or equivalent education and experience)

  • Preferred Master's Degree MBA

  • 7 years of relevant experience In corporate venture capital and/or strategy and development, financial modeling, business analysis, investment banking, venture capital, private equity, and/or corporate development Required

  • 3 years of relevant experience In investment banking, start-ups, or strategic experience in mergers and acquisitions of businesses and/or business development or strategy. Required

  • Other Beneficial skills - Financial modeling, forecasting, and reporting skills to evaluate investments and potential deals. ​
