Job Description

Iowa Workforce Development is seeking applicants for the position of Reentry Career Planner at the Fort Dodge, IA Correctional Facility.

About Iowa Workforce Development

Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) is a state agency dedicated to providing exceptional employment services and connecting employers with skilled workers. With a strong focus on continuous improvement and aligning services with workforce demands, IWD offers comprehensive support to job seekers and employers through a statewide network of IowaWORKS Centers.

Your role as a Reentry Career Planner

  • Coach inmates on job searches and assist to build their personal and job skills for successful employment.

  • Provide reemployment services to soon to be release offenders on-site at a correctional facility.

  • Development an employment plan to identify employment goals, career planning, and assessments.

  • Provide short-term pre-vocational services and reemployment workshop information and communication.

  • Develop and maintain a documented plan of action for clients with proper and timely case notes.

  • Facilitate employment and training services with a primary focus on meeting the needs of clients who are unable to obtain employment and need additional assistance.

  • Conduct ongoing follow-up communication activities with ex-offender’s job search progress to ensure a successful outcome.

  • Facilitate reemployment group and individual workshops on topics of:

  • Job application skills

  • Resume development.

  • Interview skills.

  • Mock interviewing.

  • Researching industry trends.

  • Soft skills, including communication, punctuality, and personal maintenance skills.

  • Provide offenders with community resources to support employment plan.

  • Ensure information is provided about Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC).

  • Federal bonding.

  • Housing assistance.

  • Food assistance.

  • Vocational Rehabilitation.

  • Registered Apprenticeship.

  • Training opportunities.

  • Veterans and other community resources.

  • Participate in development and implementation of recruitment strategies.

  • Collaborate with Business Services Team to match ex-offender with job opportunities and help job seekers obtain meaningful employment opportunities.

  • Continued on-going follow-up to support ex-offenders.

Hours of Work: Monday – Friday 8:00am-4:30pm.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of full-time public contact work obtaining, analyzing and evaluating data such as job/claims interviewing, testing, referral and/or placement, sales representative, credit investigation, or related public contact work dealing with job applicants and employers in a variety of supportive clerical and outreach functions for one year of the required education with a maximum substitution of four years;

OR

employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to twelve months of full-time work as a Workforce Associate.
